Whether you are an app developer or working to increase downloads of your app in the Google play store, you have to do keyword research and find google app searches.

With over 2 million mobile apps in the major app stores, getting your app discovered is one of the biggest issues facing mobile app publishers today. If you’re in the mobile app space, it’s important to understand the various methods for marketing your app.

App Store Optimization (ASO) is different from Search engine optimization of websites and it is a very crucial piece of mobile app marketing.

Most Searched Keywords in Google Play Store in 2018

Last month, one of my friends asked me to help him with finding new keyword ideas as he was searching for new ideas for apps which are popular and trending. I started looking for most searched keywords in Google Play Store but there were literally zero results.

After that, I decided to work on it on my own and I spent last month creating this infographic in which I’ve listed 50 most searched keywords in the google play store. I did all this with the help of Google Keyword Planner tool and Search Volume tool.

Let’s have a look at the infographic:

Google Play Store Search Keywords: Complete List

Selecting the most relevant, trending, high-volume keywords have the same effect in-app search that it does in web search: driving quality traffic to apps from app searches. And since searching is the most popular method of app discovery in app stores, SEO can be a very lucrative factor for those who do it right.

New Mobile App Discovery Methods
More apps are discovered through search than any other method.

The search volume for every keyword is mentioned in the infographic and by this, you can also get ideas for categories of apps in which more people are interested in. Many of the keywords are related to popular apps or games but still, you can get hundreds of keywords ideas from this infographic.

According to the head of search and discovery for Google Play, Ankin Jain, a full 12% of all daily active users are looking for apps on a daily basis. And a whopping 50% of these DAUs (daily active users) search for apps at least once a week. Over the course of a month, Google Play processes six million unique search phrases.

Google Play Most Searched Keywords

You can also get app store keyword ideas from popular sources like iTunes, Google Play, and Yahoo Aoo Search. These search engines help their users to find what they are looking for and you can get a sense of which keywords are more popular.

Now we all know that app store rankings are periodically changed by Google and Apple but app store SEO or ASO that is based on solid and deep keyword research will benefit both users and developers for as long as consumers are looking for apps.

More than 63% of apps are discovered through app store searches. This makes search the most used method for discovering and downloading new apps.

At Google I/O, Ankit Jain reported that “For the average app, search actually makes up the vast majority of installs.” Simply put, this means that:

If you’re not using ASO to increase your app’s search ranking, you’re missing out on the largest discovery channel available to your app.
